Kate Lyons with her husband and two daughters, the family behind Modern Makerie handmade bags

Meet Kate

The maker and dreamer behind Modern Makerie is me, Kate. I’ve always been a creator, whether at the sewing machine, in the kitchen, or wherever an idea takes me. Every bag is thoughtfully handmade with love and care, ensuring that each piece is as unique as the person it’s made for. I craft each item with a passion for sustainability, quality, and the little details that make life beautiful.

the tiny shop

The MM shop started in the top floor of our home in Louisville, Ky, where it grew over the first five years. In late 2021, we began to look for a new place for our family business to expand. Until we find it, our shop's temporary home is in the basement of Jonathan's mother's home.
